Locksley, Maryland players address Josiah Teasley, Dontay Joyner's situations: "We believe in second chances."

The “let the legal process play out” line is what bothers me most.
That framing makes it sound like Maryland is waiting to see whether an accusation is ever proven. That’s not what happened here. Teasley was already tried and found guilty of second-degree assault on July 31. He was sentenced to three years, fully suspended, and 18 months of supervised probation.
Yes, he has appealed. But let’s not pretend the legal process hasn’t already produced a result once. A judge heard the case and found him guilty. He had counsel, and it was private counsel (not a public defender).
The timing matters too. Eight days after that guilty finding, new allegations surfaced involving an alleged violation of the protective order and threats to distribute intimate photos. Probation officials then sought a warrant, which was issued and served. Teasley filed his appeal the next day.
Now he has new counsel, Gansler, who did not represent him at the original trial, advancing arguments about Ring-camera footage and other evidence that he says undermines the conviction. Maybe those arguments ultimately prevail. That’s what the new trial is for. But right now those are defense arguments, not findings by a court that the original conviction was wrong.
So when Locksley says he’s just “letting the legal process take its course,” that feels incredibly evasive or gaslighting. The legal process did take its course. There was a trial and a guilty finding. There is now another stage of that process because Maryland gives him a new trial on appeal.
If Maryland’s actual standard is that even a guilty finding after trial isn’t enough to remove a player while an appeal remains pending, then say that clearly and defend it. But don’t talk about this as though Maryland is merely waiting for an unresolved allegation to work its way through the courts.
And especially after the Joyner situation, this deserves much more scrutiny.
Jeff and the IMS team, you guys are one of the very few outlets that consistently cover Maryland football in depth. Please press Locksley on this. What exactly is the standard? At what point does accountability kick in? Because “let the legal process play out” isn’t much of an answer when the legal process already resulted in a guilty finding.
