To be fair, our DTs were getting double teamed for most of the game and Boise runs the ball so well the safeties had their eyes in the backfield more than they did the Boise receivers. Hats off to them.
I actually thought the o line wasn’t bad, especially considering they (apparently) don’t know where/when they are playing or who is going to be playing next to them. Crader and the right side didn’t look great to me, but again it wasn’t horrible. They just didn’t get much of a push in the run game. For as many twists and stunts Boise plays though, I thought they handed them off really well and only gave up one bad sack.
the offense was pass heavy, but we have a heisman candidate at QB and two Ferraris on the outside (3 if Evans plays better) + a great TE. I understand why we threw a lot more. May be an indicator for the season, may just have been one game.
Offensive play calls were solid albeit with a few too many WR screens that require our worst blockers to eliminate a defender in space (why is that a thing again?), but the numbers were actually really good. The experience in game was maddening because of execution and discipline issues.
defensive scheme was actually more frustrating for me. We rarely came out of that two high safety shell and Boise was happy to get 5 yards on just about every first down which opened up so many options for them on second and third down.
Boise also made terrific plays all game long. Felt like they made at least 10 shoestring tackles. That TE catch on fourth down over Koi for the TD was great and illustrates how well trained players who execute a play to perfection can beat a better athlete sometimes.
Boise is like a poor man’s Indiana, who we fortunately won’t have to play unless it’s in the playoffs…
