Summary
Injury: Ohio State coach Ryan Day stopped by to meet with the media following Wednesday's practice.
Ohio State coach Ryan Day stopped by to meet with the media following Wednesday's practice. The coach provided the latest update as the top-ranked Buckeyes face No. 4 Texas on Saturday in Austin (7:30 p.m., ABC). Check out the video of Day's comments below. (We will have video of OSU players DT James Smith, OL Austin Siereveld and LB Christian Alliegro.) VIDEO INTERVIEW: COACH DAY MORE FROM COACH DAY Here were more of his comments: * On facing 100 degree heat in Austin – "We did some studies this summer sport science wise to do what we could to get our guys ready. We've looked at some of the some of the practices we've had looked at the heat index, not nearly what they've been dealing with. So we try to do some different things sport science wise, I won't get into all of what those are, but not overdoing it either. "It's going to be the same for both sides. I know they've been practicing it, but I'm sure both teams will play a lot of depth and you know, it'll be the same for both teams. So you know, we'll be prepared. "We know we've done a few things turn up the heat in here and listen to our sports science folks, but but not putting too much of a focus on it. We just got to get out there and play football." * On going with a silent count if need be at Texas – "Yeah. You know, Arthur's been great. You know, he's brought different things to us, finding different ways to change things up. "And I feel we've been working on it for a long time this summer. We know that this year going in, there was going to be great environments we have to play in. So it's something that we knew we had to get used to. "So we've been practicing a lot and it doesn't make it easy. But I feel like we're on the right road to prepare to go do our jobs down there. But we've got to go do it." * On how to know when young players are ready for the big moment – "Other than just you're going to follow the level of your training and that's what has to happen. But yeah, you come to Ohio State to win games like this, we're all evaluated by games like this. "And that's just the way it is. Coaches, players. We all know that. We embrace that. And when guys come here, we make sure that we remind them that this is what it's all about." * On the tight end group – "They were solid. Solid. And I think sometimes for the tight ends they're asked to do a lot of different things. "And sometimes when you don't notice them, that's a good thing. But you know, certainly when they have opportunities to make plays in the game, we want them to do that. But overall, they're going to be a key part of what we do just because they tie in the outside piece and the inside piece in terms of everything that we do. "So you know, so far, solid. And you know, we'll see that that group obviously grow as the season goes on." * On preparing for a big game – "I think that's why we keep the routine the routine to make sure that we're built for preparing for games like this, because everything we do is built around preparing for games like this. We try not to change that. I think his routine has been excellent and how he does that. "So I think he every game every year, you try to refine what you do, recognize the things that you got to do to improve. And I think he's doing that. And I think Arthur (Smith) bringing some of the things that he's doing and how he game plans and does things has been great for Julian as well. "So I think it's been good. I think probably the only thing is maybe just a few more group things like getting together with the receivers and getting together with the offensive line and talking through things." * On DE Qua Russaw returning to practice – "Yeah. Yep. Had a full week." * On the challenge of facing Tecas WRs Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo – "Great challenge for them. But again, this is this is why you come to Ohio State. "We have good receivers, too. So they have to trust their training and they've been going against our guys every day in practice. But yeah, their their guys are excellent. "Some of the best in the country. Real speed, really good route runners and obviously a really good quarterback that throws the ball in time. So our guys are excited for the challenge, but know that this is a great group. "But I think they'll have confidence in their preparation leading into the game." * On freshman nickel back Jay Timmons – "Yeah. He really pops off the screen. "You know, in terms of watching film, when you watch him play, you just see the competitiveness. So he doesn't carry himself like a freshman to me." * On whether Legend Bey will return kicks – "We're still evaluating that going into the game. You know, he was back there today catching and we had a couple other guys back there as well. So we'll keep looking at it all the way to game time."
