QB: Agreed that it was a very limited sample size.
travelingbuckeye said... (original post) Not sure where the source gets Fahey's ball placement better than Tavian's from one game. show more Agreed that it was a very limited sample size. But I remember one pass in particular that was pretty extraordinary...we were on their 35 yd line, Fahey stepped up into a clean pocket...Brock Boyd was around the 20, positioned to the outside of his defender...Fahey throws the ball BEFORE Boyd is open...he throws the ball over the middle and low to the ground...while the ball is in the air, Boyd cuts to the inside, gets past his defender to the inside (just barely), dives low and plucks the ball almost off the ground with the defender draped all over him. Looked like Fahey was expecting Boyd to cut to the inside (in fact that HAD to be the case, based on where Fahey placed the ball) and placed the ball perfectly for Boyd to make his cut to the inside and dive for the ball. Very nice play and an example of "throwing your receiver open". Great coordination between QB and receiver because if Boyd doesn't cut to the inside, Fahey is hung out to dry with a pass over the middle to nobody, that could be intercepted...but Fahey placed the ball so low to the ground that it would have been difficult to intercept even if Boyd wasn't there.
