Wyoming at CSU (Border War) - Saturday 4 p.m. (USA Network)
Summary
DL: Now you've gone from "**** talk" / trash talk to "projecting confidence", which are not remotely the same thing.
Now you've gone from "**** talk" / trash talk to "projecting confidence", which are not remotely the same thing. Of course a coach should be confident when asked what they think their chances are.
And, bulletin board material is definitely a motivational tactic coaches have used since forever. If you think everyone shows up and just gives 100% at all times because "why wouldn't they", it just isn't that simple. Good coaches know exactly what to say to get the best out of their players.
Does it make a HUGE difference? Probably not. Might just be a slight edge that could show up in a close game.
Frankly, the reason I think it's a mistake this week is because Wyoming has underperformed under this coaching staff, darn near every game played under Sawvel. So talking trash just makes us look that much more pathetic if CSU wins comfortably. Which is the last thing you need when you still have 11 games to play.
EDIT: Just to clarify, I'm specifically talking about coaches & players refraining from it, not fans, who should be fully engaged in Border War back & forth.
