Reflect for a moment
Summary
LB: The differences between the halves were the huge disappointment.
I agree. The differences between the halves were the huge disappointment.
It has been a rarity in the past several years for the football team to play a complete game with consistency. That's bothersome.
The other thing goes back to something Don Nehlen addressed after we beat penn state soundly in 88.
He was asked if the last touchdown of the first half by Undra Johnson wasn't running up the score. Yes a PSU reporter asked. Don said it was the first half. You score as much as you can in the first half as possible.
The reach for the end zone by Hawkins is an in the moment decision he made trying to score. I would never blame effort. That happens.
Taking a knee with just under a minute left, and I believe we had all our time outs left. Go for it. If you scort 7 or 3, you put your opponent in a deeper hole to dig out of.
First half, as it turned out, came almost to close. The win was the important statistic that matters in the long run.
I have believed the Oklahoma State is our game to put it all together, but that second half certainly left a lot of doubt about putting an opponent away.
There was bad play, but even, in my opinion, even worse offensive play calling. That was inexcusable.
I am not going to pick on the defensive front. They made their mistakes, but what I saw was mistakes of aggression, they need to play more disciplined, that I think will come.
Overall a win, but what was the real team? The first half, or the second half. That is what concerns me, and we will see moving on what this team is made of.
