I loved those offenses as well, and have always thought it would be interesting to manufacture a team with the best, fast strike air raid + the best most air tight defense just to see the stats at the end of the season. (Think 2003 Offense with healthy BJ + last year’s Defense). The hypothesis is that you can’t have both because the D gets too gassed, but I’d love to see statistically how much of an effect it has. Twice since 2000 Tech has been #1 nationally in Total Offense and dead last in Total Defense (2003 and 2017 or whatever Pat’s last season was) during a season. Very few schools have had that distinction once let alone twice.
