AUSTIN, Texas – Just over one calendar year has passed since then-No. 1 Texas dropped its 2025 season-opening contest to No. 3 Ohio State.
Last season's contest marked the beginning of a 10-3 season for Longhorns' head coach Steve Sarkisian, a far cry from the team's preseason national championship hopes.
Fast forward to current times, No. 4 Texas (1-0) faces off against No. 1 Ohio State (1-0) – looking to find an elusive victory over the Buckeyes – a program which has thwarted the Longhorns' national title hopes in each of the last two seasons.
"We're focused on us and what we need to do to be successful," Sarkisian stressed during his Thursday Zoom media availability. "If I polled every player Monday morning, they all would raise their hands and say we want to win Saturday night. We know how to get us to a point to where we can put ourselves in position to win. Let's go follow suit. Let's trust our process to get ourselves ready to go play."
Over Sarkisian's 69-game tenure as Texas' head coach, he holds a record of 16-14 against Associated Press or College Football Playoff top-25 ranked teams, but a 4-9 mark against the top 10 during his time in Austin, including an 0-5 record against Georgia and Ohio State.
Saturday's matchup will see the field littered with talent on both rosters, but the outcome may very well be decided by the signal-callers.
Texas fourth-year quarterback Arch Manning is coming off an excellent outing in the Longhorns' 59-7 trouncing of Texas State, where Manning went 20-of-27 passing for 304 yards with four touchdowns and one interception.
Ohio State third-year QB Julian Sayin notched his seventh career 300-yard passing day in the Buckeyes' equally impressive 56-3 win over Ball State last weekend.
Both talents enter their second season as their team's respective starters as Heisman Trophy favorites, looking to launch their candidacy with a strong outing in front of a nationally televised audience (6:30 p.m., ABC).
