Nebraska linebacker Owen Chambliss is trending toward his season debut against Bowling Green after missing the opener with a lingering hamstring issue, with Thursday reporting expecting him to play while Matt Rhule remained hopeful rather than confirming clearance.

Rhule also said Nebraska safety Caleb Benning could play Saturday after missing the Ohio opener, but the report provides neither a definitive availability decision nor a planned workload.

Chambliss brings prior experience directing Rob Aurich's scheme, while his absence forced Nebraska's Vincent Shavers Jr. to change linebacker assignments and defensive calls from field-side partners to boundary-side communication, with Dexter Foster and Dawson Merritt also taking significant opening-game snaps.
