It's mainly to make the QB and OL unsure of where the rush is coming. Making the OL uncertain about who is rushing vs dropping can lead to miscommunications. And it makes the QB hesitate for a second to make sure there isn't a DL dropping to cut off a hot route from a blitzing LB/DB. Not something you can do every snap but I don't have a problem with mixing it in here and there.
