Normally im pretty old school on this stuff but I guess imo it definitely doesnt give a competitive edge it is forst and foremost for the players safety. If anything id think it would actually impede the players performance a bit. That being said I leave this one on the personal choice of the player. They do look dumb but its whatever on that I dont really see an issue with them if said player elects to use it.
