Weekend CFB Predictions - Week 2
Summary
Pick/market: Last week was not pretty.
Last week was not pretty. That's underselling it, it was a bloodbath for me as far as predictions are concerned. I went 1-4 and three of them were blowout losses where my picks looked like a paid a kindergartener to make my selections. I took the 3.5 points and Wyoming against Jim Mora's Colorado State team. CSU manhandled the Cowboys 35-13. For some ridiculous reason, I took Clemson at 10.5 points against LSU. They lost 51-10. Imagine what it would have been like if LSU had had NFL players. It took Cal who was getting 1.5 points in Berkeley. This one was closer, but the Bruins pulled away at the end for a 45-24 win in Bob Chesney's first game as their head coach. 0-3. On Sunday, I had Mississippi -6.5. I felt pretty darn good about my selection, but Jeff Brohm is a heck of a coach and he had his guys ready to go. Ole Miss won, but only by three -- 41-38. Then came Monday. My last shot at avoiding a sweep. SMU was favored by 2.5 on the road at Florida State. The Seminoles did a good job of hanging around, but ultimately, Kevin Jennings and his 430 yards and three touchdown passes were enough to eek out a 27-24 win on the road in Tallahassee. Ok, started the season rough, time to get back to where I know I can be...in the money. Here we go...there's some really good games to watch this weekend... Record vs. the Spread 2026: 1-4 Arizona State at Texas A&M #10 (-14.5) - I really like Marcel Reed and I think he brings a lot to the table for the Aggies. ASU is an upstart and they are led by an impressive looking first-time starter in Cutter Boley. Neither team was really tested last week, so it's not easy to get a read on this one, but I'm going to go with Texas A&M at Kyle Field in front of 100,000+ fans. Texas A&M 38-21. Oklahoma #11 (-5.5) at Michigan - Heading into the season, I looked at this game in week two and said to myself, "Kyle Whittingham will have his guys ready to go and they'll beat the Sooners in front of the crowd in the Big House". Then I watched what the Wolverines looked like. Eesh. Not good. Defensively, I think the Wolverines will hold Oklahoma to under 24 points, but I just don't think their offense will do much against what is a really good Sooners defense. Take Oklahoma and give the points on the road. Oklahoma 21-13. Arizona (+7.5) at BYU #15 - BYU is good and I think they win this one, but I think Arizona has enough to push them and if they do lose, it will be by less than a touchdown. Noah Fifita has a ton of experience and he's a playmaker. He's a guy who wills his team to wins. Bear Bachmeier is 13-2 as a starter. If this was in Arizona, I might have taken the Wildcats outright, but I just think in Provo, the Cougars will be tough to beat. BYU 27-21. Ohio State #1 (+1.5) at Texas #4 - Two of the Blue Bloods in the program. They played a defensive game last year with OSU getting a 14-7 win. It was Arch Manning's first start. Not necessarily the easiest place to get your first start. The cool thing is we get a rematch of starting QBs, which is a rarity in today's football landscape, so this one should be a good one and I think that we see more scoring in this year's game. I honestly am not sure which way to go on this one. My gut says that the Buckeyes have enough to come away with the win, so that's the way I'm going. Ohio State wins 27-20. Arkansas at Utah #20 (-13.5) - Utah is talented and I really like Devon Dampier. I think he's very underrated as a leader of a college offense. He can run, he can throw and he just makes things happen. Arkansas just isn't as talented. I think the Utes cruise in this one to get to 2-0 on the season. Utah 38-17.
