Mississippi State (1-0) and Minnesota (1-0) will face off for the first time in their respective program histories today. Kickoff is set for 2:30 PM CT. The game will be televised by CBS and can be streamed through Paramount +, which is a free add-on for Genespage.com/247Sports full price subscribers.
The game is essentially a pick 'em in the eyes of oddsmakers with each team being listed as a favorite by a point or so depending on one's book of choice. The game is not sellout, and the early arriving crowd is pretty thin at this point. It is expected to fill in a good bit between now and kickoff.
The Bulldogs blasted Louisiana-Monroe last weekend in Starkville. A few days earlier the Golden Gophers dispatched Eastern Illinois with ease. Minnesota played their week 1 game on Thursday, to they have had a little more time to rest and prepare for today's matchup.
Today is an extremely important game for both teams. Perhaps, it has a shade more of importance for the Bulldogs as the State regular season slate is a very difficult one. Coach Jeff Lebby's team needs to win ever toss-up that they can and today is the first one of those this season.
Minnesota has been to seven bowl games in the previous nine years, winning all of them. Many wonder if the Gophers are ready to take the next step and contend for the FBS playoff. A win today is a means toward that hopeful end.
The Bulldogs are expected to be without the services of defensive lineman Diesel Moye, tight end Joeseph Skipworth and wide receiver Ayden Williams. Linebacker Zakari Tillman was expected to be available today after missing last weekend's opener. He is now listed as unavailable. During that game, second-team center Dalton Toothman went down with a lower leg injury. He is available today if needed.
