No. 3 Notre Dame Sizzles Rice in Home Opener for 12th-Straight Victory

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Quarterback CJ Carr went 16-for-20 (80%) for 253 yards and four touchdowns, leading No. 3 Notre Dame (2-0) to a 52-0 rout of Rice (1-1) in the home opener on Saturday afternoon.
The Fighting Irish extend their current win streak to 12 games, with an average margin of victory of 31.4 points. Each win has come by double digits.
Saturday's victory represents Notre Dame's first win in a home opener against a Football Bowl Subdivision opponent since Marcus Freeman became head coach. It was also the first time in 45 games that the Irish have shut out an opponent and the second time under Freeman it has happened.
The last shut occurred via a 44-0 rout of Boston College on Nov. 19, 2022.
Running back Nolan James had six carries for 29 yards, including two 1-yard touchdown runs.
Carr's day ended following the first dive of the third quarter. Backup Noah Grubbs, a true freshman, entered the game first. He went 7-of-11 (64%) for 78 yards.
Teddy Jarrard, the other Irish freshman signal-caller, finished off the game under center and completed both of his pass attempts for 29 yards.
Linebacker Jaiden Ausberry led Notre Dame's starters with five tackles (1.0 for a loss) and a recovered fumble.
Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa also made his season debut off the bench after missing last weekend's game against Wisconsin in Lambeau Field. The 6-foot-3 linebacker also recorded five tackles (1.5 for a loss) and had a fumble recovery.
The Owls were held to 128 yards of offense, including 53 over the three quarters.
