Does Brent Key have the “It” factor?
Summary
QB/LB: Collins set the bar so low for GT that 5 years later we are still satisfied with just making a bowl game.
Collins set the bar so low for GT that 5 years later we are still satisfied with just making a bowl game. That is not who we are historically and not who I want GT to be. This program is a multiple national title program, rooted in the heart of southeastern football which is the Mecca of football. We should be winning a minimum of 8 games a season and that should be the floor.
Brent took us out of the Collins dark ages and last year brought us to that level of success GT should be having every single season, but that was mostly to a very good OC and a generationally tough QB. He struck gold in the Buster and Santucci hires but every other hire one could argue has been average at best. Hes hired one of the worst DCs in GT history in Gideon and now I believe hired one of the worst OCs in GT history in Godsey. He is only as good as his coordinators and he’s chosen to anchor himself with his best man and will sink with him. Unless Colorado and UT turn out to be 10+ win teams, I see us being lucky to make a bowl game this year. Had we held on to both Buster and Santucci last year I truly believe we could have made it to the quarter finals in the playoffs atleast and most likely won the acc. Brent can’t keep coaches around and has become impossible to work for long term unless you are a loyal Yes Man. I don’t see key ever winning a championship for GT National or conference. He doesn’t have IT
