STORY: Arizona State collapses in fourth quarter, falling to Texas A&M 48-20
Summary
Pick/market: I too am looking forward to the bball season and its been many years since that was the case.
I too am looking forward to the bball season and its been many years since that was the case. I think you have to risk it a bit more in football than bball but Kenny's moments of gambling, he calls up plays that do not fit the situation resulting in the play looking like it was a badly designed play. It may not have been as bad if the situation was one that fit the play he called but the way he uses said plays for his "gambles" make them look like badly designed plays. That fake punt is one example, had that runner gone to the right, where he had blockers (and away from the defenses direction as the defense came at him when the snap went his way), it may have gone for a few extra yards than were needed and we would all be giving him kudos. Instead, he basically had a slow TE running unprotected into at least 3 defenders with a couple more crashing down at him.
I am still glad Kenny is our coach over the other candidates that were on the short list when we hired Kenny. However, I have no more patience for his ah shucks routine and his repeated coaching errors. He talks a great talk and says things like "scouting yourself" so you are not predictable but yet he continues to make the same disastrous errors. Many fans hear his words and think he "gets it" and he is making the corrections in the off-season, film room, practices but then the games happen and he demonstrates the definition of insanity by doing the same things that have failed 90% of the time.
I am looking for coaching, player and team evolution/improvement and game-over-game, as well as year-over-year, and I am not sold that we are getting that from Kenny and Co. It is always one game at a time but I am not certain we are laying the foundation necessary to regularly make it to championship games, let alone win championships.
