Point spread released for Alabama football rematch vs. Florida State
Summary
Injury: You’re equating playing at night as being an elite program.
jerry mcguire said... (original post) Whatever. You can debate whatever you want. It’s not about all that. If you can read above how many times LSU has played at home a Night? Wha... show more You’re equating playing at night as being an elite program. That’s not how it works. If you are involved in the best game of the week, then, yes, you will play at night. But ESPN is going to park other games in the night slots that it doesn’t mind competing for ratings with the big game. LSU played night games last year against Southeastern Louisiana, Western Kentucky and Louisiana Tech. ESPN didn’t care about those games going head-to-head with whatever better night games were happening that week. There was no better game on paper in Week 1 than LSU-Clemson. It had to be the night game. But otherwise night games are throwaway games for ratings. They’re Arkansas-Vandy games on SEC Network when everyone else is watching Alabama-Georgia on ABC. Being an elite program or being part of a high-level game means ESPN putting you in a 2:30 time slot or even 11am in some cases. Alabama gets that treatment routinely. “Playing a night game” is not a status symbol. Playing on ABC is, regardless of the time of day.
