Utah stuffs Arkansas, 43-10
Summary
Injury: Arkansas hung around long enough to score an opening-drive field goal, but it was all downhill from there as No.
Arkansas hung around long enough to score an opening-drive field goal, but it was all downhill from there as No. 20 Utah scored 22 points in the second quarter and cruised to a 43-10 win over the Razorbacks Saturday night at Rice-Ecclus Stadium in Salt Lake City (Utah).  In a late game that kicked off at 9:30 p.m. in the central time zone, the Utes (2-0) stuffed the Razorbacks (1-1) on the ground with a 141-61 rushing edge and Devon Dampier kept the Hogs off balance all night with a huge final stat line: 18 of 24 for 261 yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 interception, while also rushing 11 times for 50 yards and two more scores. WayShawn Parker also hurt the Hogs in more ways than one.  He ran 10 times for 64 yards and 2 touchdowns while also catching five passes for 65 yards and another touchdown. Tight end Noah Bennee turned in a big night with four grabs for 113 yards and a touchdown. Arkansas never reached the end zone until the fourth quarter when backup AJ Hill replaced KJ Jackson, who completed just 14 of 34 passes for 139 yards and an interception. Hill finished 8 of 14 for 105 yards with a touchdown and no turnovers, but was sacked for -23 yards on the final two plays of the game. The Razorbacks were again sloppy in the penalty department with 7 for 56 on the night compared to 7 for 50 by the Utes. Arkansas went 7 of 17 on third down, 2 of 4 on fourth down – both of which belonged to Hill on his scoring drive – and gave up 301 passing yards. Jackson was the Hogs' leading rusher with seven for 34 yards. Bradley Shaw paced the unimpressive defensive performance with nine stops. Here's how it unfolded: Arkansas' long opening drive produced a field goal after 14 plays, 64 yards and the first 7:16 off the clock. Max Gilbert booted the 29-yarder to cap a drive that included a pair of snags by Monte Harrison and a 24-yard leaping catch by Chris Marshall before the Razorbacks took a 3-0 lead with 7:44 remaining in the opening quarter.  Jackson was 6 of 8 for 50 yards and went 2 for 3 on third down on the Hogs initial possession. The Utes started with trickery as Byrd Ficklin hit Wayshawn Parker on a double-pass from backup quarterback to running back that went for 36 yards to the Arkansas 30, starting a trend that would see Ficklin remain involved for much of the contest while keeping the Razorbacks guessing defensively. After converting a fourth and 2 inside the Arkansas 5, Utah took a 7-3 lead on a 1-yard plunge by Parker to finish the 10-play, 75-yard drive that covered 4:05. Parker was the go-to guy on the Utes' opening drive, touching it five times for 61 total yards. The two teams traded punts before Arkansas took over from its own 6 with 1:09 left in the first quarter thanks to a beautiful 60-yard punt by Utah punter Orion Phillips. Christian Harrison came away with the game's first turnover with 12:17 left in the second quarter when he picked Devon Dampier, who was being smacked by Quincy Rhodes Jr. while releasing the ball.  The Razorbacks couldn't capitalize, however, as the next drive included a personal foul 15-yard penalty for a crushing blindside block by Marshall, then a momentum-erasing interception by Jackson Bennee on Jackson's screen toss to the right side. Taking over from Arkansas' 24, Utah needed just three plays to cash in on the mistake.  Dampier scored on a keeper around the left side with 9:23 left in the first half to make it 13-3, and Utah opted for 2 on the try to push the lead to a dozen at 15-3.  The Hogs converted a third and short on a promising ensuing possession, but they came up empty after Gilbert missed a 51-yard field goal attempt to leave the scoreboard unchanged and exactly 5 minutes on the clock. Parker scored his second touchdown of the night with 1:55 left in the second quarter to make it a 22-3 game after an extra point from Dillon Curtis. Parker's race to the corner of the end zone capped a 6-play, 67-yard drive.  It went from bad to worse on Arkansas' ensuing drive as the Hogs posted a quick three-and-out and gave it back to a hot Utah offense with 1:32 remaining and favorable starting field position at its own 36. The Utes needed just 1:05 to push the lead to 29-3 on Parker's third touchdown – this time a reception – and the Razorbacks started their next drive with a delay of game. At the break, Utah had 260 total yards to 157 from the Razorbacks, which included just 51 rushing yards on 16 carries. The Utes were averaging 5.5 YPC with 15 rushes for 82 yards, and Dampier led all rushers with 44 yards and a touchdown on seven attempts.  Through four drives, the Razorbacks had 23 rushing yards on 9 carries while the Utes were averaging 5.1 on ten attempts.  Bennee stayed hot on Utah's first drive of the second half as he opened with a 57-yard reception and capped the drive with a 1-yard touchdown catch that made it 36-3 Utes with the point after. The five-play drive covered 75 yards and left 12:03 remaining in the third quarter. Offsetting penalties left Arkansas facing a third and 14 on its first possession of the third quarter, which quickly ended with a 41-yard punt by Gavin Rush.  With just over 6 minutes left in the third quarter, Jackson found tight end Ty Lockwood for a 13-yard gain to reach the Utes' 40. The Hogs came up empty, though, as their drive died on a fourth and 12 that saw Jackson's attempt knocked down by the defender. Utah extended its lopsided lead to 43-3 at the 12:47 mark of the fourth quarter on Dampier's 2-yard rush that ended an 11-play, 70-yard drive that took 4 minutes and 45 seconds off the clock.  AJ Hill replaced Jackson early in the fourth quarter and nearly saw his first attempt intercepted after being tipped, but then converted a pair of fourth downs on a lengthy scoring drive. With 8:29 left and Arkansas facing a third and 1, starting right tackle Bryant Williams was helped off the field with an apparent leg injury and replaced by Adam Hawkes.  HIll and Lockwood linked up for a 13-yard gain to the Utah 10 with just under 8 minutes left, but a holding penalty backed up the Hogs to second and goal from the 21.  Hill's pass from there was nearly intercepted but was caught by Ismael Cisse in the end zone for the Razorbacks' first touchdown of the night, which came with 6:43 remaining and made it a 43-10 game. Hill's scoring drive lasted 6:04 and covered 75 yards in 14 plays. UP NEXT  The slate continues to get more difficult for Silverfield as the Razorbacks will now open conference play against No. 2 Georgia next Saturday at 11 a.m. The game will be shown on ABC.
