When's the Last Time
Summary
QB/DL: Here's the biggest thing for this defense: we're getting pressure (lots) with just 4 guys.
Here's the biggest thing for this defense: we're getting pressure (lots) with just 4 guys. KSU's best teams have always been able to do this. Whether it was Jordan Willis, Darren Howard, Ryan Mueller, or even FAU (who sometimes could get some with a 3-man rush)....those teams were legit. Yes, Gregory is a handful, Jordan Allen seems to have improved his ability to keep the edge (he looks quicker), and Whitaker is a freak-level athlete when you put him at DE. But also Travis Bates is an absolute problem for any interior guy to stop on a passing play....he's just too sudden for them. I know our DB's have played great "on ball" defense too, though my friends there in person the first two weeks have said plenty of guys have been open in the secondary. I just think our DL is giving a QB maybe 2.5 seconds to do something with the ball (and we can drop 7) so it doesn't matter. Speaking of that "on ball" defense, worth noting this is MUCH improved over Klieman's tenure where it often seemed our guys would be near the right position but had never played a ball in the air before.
