ALL 22 First Half
Summary
QB/OL: Second half starts.......Mateer begins to make some throws.
Second half starts.......Mateer begins to make some throws. Run blocking starts to break apart. Both guards get whipped on subsequent run plays ending up in TFL's. Best gets beat by the Nose then EPL gets "humped" and lost his leverage against the DT he was blocking. Sategna has a nice WR sweep run called back via penalty. Mateer is in a rythm and makes a nice throw to Trell. EPL is stiff.... 52 is having a bad day now. Just doesn't block the DE on QB power........doesn't even touch him. 76 can't block 8 in pass pro. Trell and Sategna do not scare Michigans CB's. They are all over them. Mateer still cannot throw a screen pass in time and with touch. The WR sweeps are getting silly now. Mateer throws flat and low to Trell, allowing the CB to undercut the throw and the games over. Trell was taking the up the field angle to gain separation BEFORE Mateer throws it, so Mateer is the one who made the error. Maybe if the pass wasn't tipped it would have had a better trajectory, but it looked like a flat direct pass, not the layered throw it needed to be. After the Int.....Mateer reverts back to FIRST HALF John and cannot complete a forward pass. The O-line really started to lose one on one battles in the run and pass game in the second half, yet Mateer was able to establish a rhythm and made some plays. The right side of the line really struggled. EPL also had a couple of plays where he lost contact with his assignment, he is stiff in his lower half and get top heavy after initial contact. You cannot win games when you only have two drives of winning football in a game. The first half was a complete nothing offensively as well as about 1/2 of the second half.
