My observations from the first two games
Summary
OL: I attended the first two games this year and wanted share my observations.
I attended the first two games this year and wanted share my observations. OFFENSE Play calling. We pass out to the flat or across the middle and pickup yards. Then run up the middle and lose yards, over and over. Coaching mindset. This hurts as I like CBO, but Purdue coached for overtime and not the win. Clock mgmt and play calling made us take 3 for the tie, instead of 7 for the win. O-Line needs to run block. I know all 5 are new to Purdue so perhaps more time to meld together? Could not open a hole when we needed 2 yards. Adjustments to take what the D gives you. It felt like for 3 quarters, Purdue ran a script. Then, in the 4th, it appeared we found the creases and open man. DEFENSE Lack of pass pressure. Been said already. D-backs, why why why do you not look back to see the ball. I think half the completions could be broken up or intercepted if they would just look back. D scheme seems to fail us (lack of talent or lack of execution) as 3-n-long and we give them 20yard pick up. COACHING The team seems timid and not that attacking defensive aggression needed to win. Clock management seemed off. Penalty discipline improved, as expected. Feel the change in momentum and feed off of it. Why did we call a time out to stop it? Why do we on a 2-n-8 or 3-n-9 either run for 2 or pass for 5. Perhaps, and I'm just spitballing here, we try a hurry up offense to change tempo. I LOVE the confidence on winning the toss, to receive the ball first.
