Troy's center said OL identification and communication improved from Week 1 to Week 2, while the run game is producing more explosive gains than last season. He still viewed the passing game as an area needing improvement, so the early rushing progress should not be treated as a fully settled offense.

Troy defender Nelson identified tackling, alignment and discipline as the defense's main corrections. He said both Alabama State scoring plays were explosives, making prevention of long gains a concrete concern entering the Missouri trip rather than just a generic demand to play better.

Nelson said Troy's Spear role is his first hybrid linebacker/defensive-back assignment after playing safety in junior college. The role requires more blitzing and edge setting; he said he is adjusting, but the interview did not announce a new position switch or a changed defensive package for Missouri.
