I'm not a better playcaller than Riley. He's an offensive genius who has earned his job and stature in the sport. With that said, I think it was a bad idea to run a QB option late in a blowout because there's a real chance the QB could get tackled wrong and wind up hurt... and look what happened. I disagree that it's a freak accident. It's the exact risk of all QB runs - the risk that the QB gets laid out by a 250lb linebacker out for blood. Maiava probably made a bad read on the play, but it's a scenario he shouldn't have been in, IMO.
