Until we have an OC that is promoting his QB to let it fly, and the ability to check into a pass play, it will appear excruciatingly contrived. Right now that is the problem. Everything looks like we are going to "give it a try". It looks far too mechanical. Confident offenses impose their will - running or passing You have to have a QB that can embrace that mentality and deliver, and not put the handcuffs on him. I think when the players see that it is on them to succeed and they have the confidence of their coaches, you will at least see if they are capable of success. I worry that Hammond may be a bit more constrained than Mahomes or any of the Leach qbs. Hammond needs to be the guy running this thing. He cant be a robot trying to make it work like the OC wants it - which may be adopting a very risk averse mentality. Otherwise you will never know what the potential or capability actually is. Tech fans are measuring the performance of Will Hammond against the success we have seen with a long line of quality quarterbacks. The problem is, Hammond is being constrained by the system. He will never get the passing reps to be close to what we have seen in the past, especially if all he is doing is running what was called on the ear piece. If Hammond does indeed have more freedom than we are aware, what is his own decision making process. We should be passing 35-45 times per game - to 10 different people, attacking every corner of the field. It always looked like the guys playing offense for Leach or Kingsbury looked like they were having a blast and could not wait to get back on the field. We need to see that!
