QB/OL: Beadles refuses to post his rewatch thoughts, I’ll post mine: Secondary - Very bad.
Since @T. Beadles refuses to post his rewatch thoughts, I’ll post mine: Secondary - Very bad. So many guys running wide open, and OSU left some big plays on the table too. Somewhat understandable with two young new starters at safety, but we better get that figured out or we’re in for some more career days by opposing WRs I fear. Hopefully BJ helps but not a good sign with him being suspended to start the year. Pollock had some nice PBUs. DL - Decent. They deserve some blame for the big passing day, but it seemed more like coverage issues to me. If you judge compared to last year they were not good. If you judge compared to basically every other Tech DL from the last several years they were good. Solid against the run and created pressure several times. Their QB was very impressive. Trick, however, I’m worried about. Watched him all game and he got close a couple times, but other than that, he got bullied or ran himself out of plays. He also had a big missed tackle that gave OSU a first down. LBs - I recall one flash play from Curry, but other than that, mostly just solid. Tackled well and held the run game in check. OL - Not great at run blocking but got better as the game went on. I think the struggles may be more scheme related than performance. Our running plays just seem so easy to defend. They were solid in pass pro. Ponton’s penalties were frustrating. WRs/TEs - Kenny Johnson is a dude and clearly our best WR. Coy has been impressive too. Moose is great. Micah? 1 catch, 1 drop, 1 personal foul. Maybe that’s why he wears #1. RBs - Terrible start for Dickey with the fumble. He seemed timid for some reason. I hate his spin move. Joyner was fine other than the PF. J’Koby is elite. Hope we can keep him healthy. He should start vs. UH. QBs - I like that Hammond is mostly playing smart and protecting the football. I think he’s done exactly what you’d hope and expect, given the play calling. The two QB thing is weird but I think it’s the right move given Hammond’s current running limitations. The coaching staff deserves credit for getting Tommy in a position to use his skills and be effective, especially since he’s only been here two weeks.
