Temple- Penn State thoughts and outlook
Summary
QB/LB: I have waited to comment on the Temple versus Penn State game so my comments would be focused.
I have waited to comment on the Temple versus Penn State game so my comments would be focused. Temple made 2 costly penalties. Temple D came back to prevent points on the 1ST penalty. Overall Temple looked strong. This bodes well for the future games. The blown pass coverage for a TD was horrible. Giving up 3RD down conversions, especially on 5+ yard spots is frustrating. The running game look solid. QB Smolik got good pass protection against Rhode Island and poor pass protection against Penn State. Most other opponents will be halfway between the 2 so the jury is still out. Offense did not show scoring ability, but did move the ball, especially on runs. The play calling has to use more off tackle runs and fakes from an off tackle run to a screen pass. I still would like some Y plays with a FB. The I formation in the Red Zone is great, even if it is faked for a pass. Kickoffs are the most consistent touchbacks since 2013. Punting looks solid. Thankfully Temple punted on 4TH with 1 in their own territory only in the 4RD Quarter. It’s nice to know HC Keeler is not a kamikaze Coach like HC Carey and HC Drayton. As a US Military Leader, there are times to take risks, and times to trust your Team, especially Temple D! Go Temple Owls!!! Beat Toledo!!!
