BOULDER — After another mixed-results performance against Weber State, Colorado is out to prove itself again this weekend at Northwestern.
Earlier this week, head coach Deion Sanders reaffirmed the Buffs' desire to accomplish more than just a winning season, and his players have so far responded well. Defensive end Toby Anene, kicker Elliot Arnold, center Sean Kinney and wide receivers Ernest Campbell and DeAndre Moore Jr. have all shared encouraging comments about Colorado's mindset.
Check out what Colorado players are saying heading into its nonconference finale in Evanston:
DE Toby Anene
"We responded coming out the next day (after Weber State)," Anene said. "We had a little workout. It was a little tough, but we all still stuck together. Nobody's satisfied in our room, in our whole team, the whole locker room… We didn't do our best (vs. Weber State), so we all know that to accomplish our goal, we have to put better stuff on tape."
K Elliot Arnold
"There's definitely always room for improvement, but I feel like week in and week out, it's getting better and better," Arnold said of CU's progress on field goals. "We're getting more comfortable with each other every week. It's going to be that we can get better every week, and there's always things to improve, but I think it's going really well right now."
C Sean Kinney
"They (Northwestern) play really hard, and they're a very smart football team," Kinney said. "You're not really going to get them with too much eye candy. They're going to be gap sound. The linebackers play hard. The safety comes out of the box sometimes; he can hit. It's a little bit different from Georgia Tech because Georgia Tech would get out of their gaps a little bit, but they're a very sound defense, and we have to communicate really well."
WR Ernest Campbell
"They're (Northwestern) pretty much a zone team," Campbell said. "They're not really in man DB-wise. There's one safety that's gonna come down and hit — No. 6 (Robert Fitzgerald) — but we've got a lot of speed, so it's pretty much pick your poison."
WR DeAndre Moore Jr.
"We're never satisfied," Moore said. "We haven't done anything yet to where anybody should be walking in with their chest up, chin out. We need to continue to work, continue to get better every single week. I think that was Coach Prime's point. We can't just be satisfied with two wins against Georgia Tech and Weber State. We still have a whole schedule to look forward to."
