You w... show more It may not make sense on the surface but I think you're underselling the amount of damage our decade of faceplanting did to our fanbase and whatever brand recognition we had. A year and a half of success under Blake isn't going to magically fix that right away. I think a lot of fans realize how much opportunity has been squandered by bad hires, poor decision making, and complacency by our admin. Not to mention sometimes just plain old bad luck, ECU doing plenty of ECU-ing, and more examples of Lucy pulling the football away from Charlie Brown than I can count. I'll give you one of many examples and it's not even the worst one. We lose to JMU in 2017. They were no slouch and had won the FCS nattie a year or 2 prior, but they come into DFS and beat us 34-14 in a game that wasn't even that close. We hire their head coach a year later and after some signs of improvement, by the time we have to fire him we've lost to Charlotte twice, lost to App State 3 times, and watch as our stock falls further and further. I'm sure you know all this, so why am I bringing this up? That same JMU team, instead of pulling an ECU, keeps making great coaching hires, upgrades to FBS, and makes the College Football Playoff in just their 4th year of FBS. With our resources and fan support (even in it's current state), that could have and should have been us at some point by now. Or look at Boise State. Their program has sustained a level of success that is light years ahead of ours by comparison. Even App State has more brand recognition than we do. I hate to admit it, but it's true. And all that time, our fan base has shown up (maybe not as much as you would like) despite the mediocrity and embarrassing losses. ESPN and many in the media can't even get our school's name right, and we have to just sit and watch as schools who used to be below just pass us right on by. Yet we still have fans buying season tickets at levels that many other schools would dream of. Our fans deserve better.
