It's about time for the Georgia Bulldogs to up and leave town.
No. 2 Georgia (2-0, 0-0 SEC) hits the road for a Saturday showdown at Arkansas (1-1, 0-0 SEC) in the conference opener for both teams. The Dawgs enter the matchup as a heavy favorite over the Hogs, but having to face them in Fayetteville adds a level of difficulty.
Kirby Smart knows as well as anyone that things get tougher away from the friendly confines of Sanford Stadium.
"Playing on the road in the SEC, humility is always a week away," Smart said on Monday. "It's a tough environment regardless of where you play in the SEC. There are no bad environments in the SEC. There are only raucous environments in the SEC. They're really tough to play in. Tougher earlier in the year than later, and as they go along, they get harder and harder. This is a challenge anytime you go on the road, especially with a group you haven't been on the road with yet."
Plenty of Bulldogs will get their first experience playing in an away game this week. Tight end Ethan Barbour is among them.
Barbour was injured in the second game of Georgia's 2025 season, and he was out until the Bulldogs battled Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl. Barbour pointed out that every SEC game is tough and that there's never a chance to catch your breath in this league. He recognized that Razorback Stadium will be loud, which will make things hard on any road team.
"I'm just really excited to go on the road for the first time," Barbour said.
The good news for the Bulldogs is their quarterback has significant road experience.
Gunner Stockton handled himself well in true road games in 2025. In those three games, Stockton completed 67% of his attempts for 785 yards with 6 touchdowns and just 1 interception. It's worth remembering that Stockton's three losses as Georgia's quarterback either occurred at neutral sites (two Sugar Bowls) or at home (Alabama).
Stockton has a good handle on the upcoming challenge and said Georgia has to emphasize communication and execution during the week. Stockton got his first taste of playing on the road in Knoxville last year, a harrowing experience that showed No. 14 how hard it is to win in hostile environments.
"Just going on the road, it's a little different. The environment, it's loud," Stockton said. "Like we talked about earlier, you've got to be able to communicate. So, you know, just really attacking practice and doing it the right way [is important]."
Having a quarterback who has a proven road record is a change of pace after Stockton learned the ropes last season. Smart was matter of fact when asked about Stockton having those road experiences under his belt.
"It's more valuable than not," Smart said.
The Bulldogs are closing in on their first SEC game, and the fact it's away from home has everybody's attention. Georgia knows it will be dealing with some noise early in Saturday's contest — the goal is to play so well it leaves Razorback Stadium speechless.
