Avery Johnson - 100 Yard Rushing Game?
Summary
QB/LB: If Ertz would have stayed healthy I think he would have been up with the greats.
longtermcat said... (original post) Nice stats and thank you for the work. Ertz is the one that could have put up some numbers if he had stayed healthy. I would just like to see A... show more If Ertz would have stayed healthy I think he would have been up with the greats. When we signed Avery I thought he would be an Adrian Martinez type of QB. His 5 rushing TD game against Tech as a Freshman backed up those thoughts. Other than a few glimpses he rarely got used in the running game the way I expected. I know he isn't a Klein bruiser but I still thought he could be a regular weapon on the ground. It seems that his legs are mostly to avoid pressure and get a few yards here and there rather than to be a weapon that strikes fear into the heart of the defense. Avery has taken some recent heat for his passing. I think some of that is overstated. He has been good (just good, not great) through the air. I think he has been as good or better than I expected through the air... it is really the lack of ground game that has surprised me. I really thought he would have been more than a 40 to 50 rushing yards per game type of runner (career avg is 42.3). Given his speed and expectations, it is still hard for me to believe that Saturday was one of his best rushing games of his career. Maybe it will be a harbinger of good things to come later this season. Maybe his legs become a weapon this season.
