It's obviously tough to predict a team, especially this early in the season. Could Oregon pull a Notre Dame or an Ohio State in 2024? Maybe. But what is most likely? Well, how have they reacted to losses in the past? Let's look at their last three losses: The loss to tOSU seemed to light a fire during the offseason. They came out on fire against Montana State and Oklahoma State, looked sloppy against Northwestern, and then played three great quarters plus overtime against Penn State to grab a huge win. After the loss to Indiana, they looked good against Rutgers (not saying much), then looked sloppy against Wisconsin and Iowa. After the loss to Indiana in the Peach Bowl, they looked sloppy and unprepared against Boise State and atrocious against Oklahoma State. Could Oregon use this loss to galvanize them? Could it provide that extra bit of motivation and resolve they need to change? Yes. But why didn't they use the demoralizing loss to Indiana last year to galvanize them this year during the offseason? Losses can be good teachers, of course. But the problem is that, right now, the issue seems to be the coaching. Are Oregon's coaches good enough to change the tide this late in the season, when these issues probably should have been addressed in the offseason? I don't want to be overly pessimistic. It is college football, after all, and anything can happen. But I need to see it against USC to believe it. Right now, that loss to Ok St has shaken me quite badly.
