Indiana retained seventh-year quarterback Grant Wilson as an experienced backup behind starter Josh Hoover. Curt Cignetti emphasized Wilson's familiarity with the system and value in the quarterback room, while Wilson also contributes to scout-team preparation. The article reports continuity in the backup role, not a competition for Hoover's starting job.

Wilson threw two touchdown passes in backup work against Howard after a 43-yard touchdown run the previous week. He has attempted only three passes across 18 Indiana appearances, and the article says he has not been needed for an extended stint. Those brief productive appearances and teammates' praise for his dual-threat ability do not establish how he would perform over a full game.
