Temple/Penn State: Pro Football Focus grades and snap counts
Summary
TE: Completely agree on Smolik and Sheppard both looking far more comfortable yesterday.
Completely agree on Smolik and Sheppard both looking far more comfortable yesterday. Also agree the turnovers are gigantic negatives for Smolik's grade. I have the same sort of reaction to Karriem's low grade. I thought he played very well overall yesterday but he was pretty clearly to blame for both Penn State touchdown passes where the tight end was basically unaccounted for. Those had to be huge negatives on his grade.
In the big picture, this defense looks like it has some real possibilities if they erase those coverage mistakes. Because they basically handed Penn State both of those touchdowns from the same field position. The other touchdown was pretty much the perfect play call when they completed the screen against the blitz and the receiver had three blockers giving him an easy path to the endzone. That's the one play where I think Temple needed to call timeout because it was the first time Penn State lined up in that formation and the Owls didn't look ready for it.
