Gig 'Em Mailbag: Texas A&M Football Q&A Ahead of Week 3 vs Kentucky
Summary
Injury: COLLEGE STATION — Week 3 is upon us, and with it comes the start of SEC play for Texas A&M football.
COLLEGE STATION — Week 3 is upon us, and with it comes the start of SEC play for Texas A&M football. After the No. 9 Aggies walloped Missouri State in Week 1, the Maroon and White welcomed Kenny Dillingham and the Arizona State Sun Devils to Kyle Field, where they fought early before pulling away for a 28-point win. Next up for the Aggies is Kentucky. The Wildcats head into College Station 1-1, after beating FCS opponent Youngstown State and then, most recently, getting handled easily by Alabama. The Aggies are more than a two-touchdown favorite again this week, but any conference opponent will help us learn more about them and perhaps answer some questions. And speaking of questions, I'm here to answer yours. Here is our weekly Gig 'Em mailbag: Can the score be posted in the subject line of the game day live thread? It was like that for the last two years. Staff would update the score in the title line every time a team scored. Thanks for your kind consideration. - BulletProof007 Sure, why not? What are your suggestions, recommendations, or ideas for fixing the RG cluster F? The current candidates are going to get Reed killed by midseason, and this cannot be an experiment for the whole season. The starting 5 need to gel. I think the quick fix is Formby at OG and L. Rogers at OT, but Formby doesn't want to move inside for obvious reasons. What say you? - BulletProof007 For me, I think it may be an even simpler fix: I like Robert Bourdon in the interior. I think the tackles and center have been strong enough that I wouldn't want to mess with that, so I'd rather get the third-year player, who has positional flexibility and can come in and bring some steadiness to the interior. They could also opt to give Coen Echols more chances. Point being, they have options, and the talent is there even if the cohesion isn't right now. Now that Rink is hurt do see Sanders taking advantage of the opportunity to get some high volume of playing time? And who's next man up on the DL? - aggiemilkman17 Head coach Mike Elko, when asked about Rink on Monday, said, "He'll be good." Does that mean this week or overall? That remains to be seen, and on Wednesday, when the first SEC availability report is released, we should get further clarity. Still, I think they may have dodged a bullet there. To answer your question, though, yes, I think DJ Sanders would get more chances for sure. He's been solid in his opportunities. Do you think Daymion Sanford will play against Kentucky? - Wmt1 I do. I get holding him back early on, especially against nonconference foes you should've handled. But on the other hand, I would've liked to see him get some reps just to get him back in the flow of things. However, yes. I think the plan was to have him ready for SEC play, and with that beginning this week, I do think it is go-time for Aggies' captain linebacker. Biggest area of improvement and area that took a step back from Game 1? - Sshaffmaster For me, the improvement was the offensive line. Yes, the running lanes weren't there, and they still gave up two sacks in the game. But it felt cleaner, and there were far fewer obvious busts upfront. Still more work to do there, but I was encouraged by the jump from Week 1 to Week 2. A step back here may be a stretch, but if I am being nitpicky, I didn't like how loose ASU's WR Reed Harris was against the Aggies secondary. The rest of the unit was virtually nonexistent, but man, Harris was having a field day out there, and that concerns me a bit. There will be other talented guys out there to contend with, so this was a little unnerving to see.
