People like to just label 17-19 as “simply JT”, but besides the obvious in a really good defense those years, the scheme and coaching blocked up very well. Rarely was he getting a full head on tackler in the backfield like Sama multiple times against western freaking Illinois. A well coached blocking scheme is a thing of beauty that not many even notice. Everyone sees the special teams fumble, or missed tackle that leads to a touchdown, or a “rb dancing too much!” but the simple less noticed mistakes like a completely missed assignment still happen way too much here and prevent possible big runs from even happening.
