It's not being stated broadly but floating background whispers are that the east expansion is partially about revenues, more so about being in a stronger perceived position if/when the ACC goes the way of the PAC-12. This is the foundation of Gillin's thinking, influencing both short and longer term plans. EVERYTHING is going into football right now, football must regain and sustain its historical status, so its the tip of the spear for ACC justification. There's only so much facilities enhancement we can do across the board with other sports, but if KBS looks on par with the remaining ACC schools (assuming Duke and Wake are stranded, Cal/Stanford leave for PAC, and SMU also goes elsewhere) and the new indoor facility will be adequate, then maybe we can slip by on some other fronts. The possibility of engaing a capital investor is something that also still pops up in conversations from time to time, but I have a really hard time imagining a completely profit-driven entity with a stringent due diligence auditing process is going to find any athletic department at our level as the right bet. I just feel it's too tough a financial needle to thread. Now, could there be a group of alumni with the greatest financial means form a group that serves the purpose of or actually establishes a capital group? Seems easier to say than to do, and the ultimate question fpr something like this or an existing investor is still the same - how do you make your money back?
