We're probably 6th in the B1G and 20ish nationally at the moment. However, those rankings are a bit deceiving...because there isn't a massive delta between 10-20 or 20-30 for that matter. The top 10ish schools have separated themselves by a wide margin financially, but their wealth isn't spread across their entire rosters. They're paying substantially higher baselines for premium positions like QB, WR, OL, DL. Much greater wealth...allocated across a smaller group of players.
The new stadium revenue can help with NIL, but much will depend on whether the PCSA passes. If it does, I believe we have sufficient corporate revenue lined up (Adidas, jersey patch, other partnerships) to cover the maximum $49mil allocation for athlete compensation. All additional fundraising and gameday revenue will likely need to be used to offset the reduction in program operating budgets. The PCSA authorizes an approx. $27mil increase the AD's allocation toward athlete compensation, so the AD will need to recoup that $27mil for its operating budget internally. Every program will be on the hook for raising more money...but for its own expenses rather than paying athletes. Otherwise, they will be forced to slash budgets.
