Another great Reggie White story—Played his last game in the Citrus Bowl. Back in the day, the game was played the week before Christmas. Imagine a 19 year old East Tennessee State college kid enjoying 82 degree temps in mid-December. It was to this day the trip of a lifetime. Weather had turned—Light rain and mid-70’s. Played Maryland with some guy named Boomer Esiason at QB. Pregame they are preparing to do the invocation. Reggie is walking on the field, so all us Vols think he’s coming out to pray. In reality he was coming out as a captain. We all cheer when they announce invocation time and Reggie raises his arms recognizing the crowd. Disappointed he didn’t pray, but it’s a moment I will never forget..
