In his Sept. 14 pre-LSU review of Charlotte, Pete Golding described Deuce Knight's progress in release timing, pocket reads and protection calls, along with tempo and taking free-access throws. He still identified one or two throws Knight would want back. This assessed his development as a passer beyond his running ability, not a new Ole Miss quarterback order.

Before LSU on Sept. 14, Golding said Ole Miss continually changes signals and terminology and needs multiple ways to signal within the same game. Staff familiarity made communication security important, but he described an ongoing operating practice, not evidence of signal theft or a newly installed offensive system.

Explaining Traylon Ray's special-teams role before LSU on Sept. 14, Golding said he wants Ole Miss' best players on those units and can rest them on offense or defense using rotational depth. He cited Ray's length and movement skills for kicking and return work. This was the coach's usage approach, not a new position change or a fixed snap quota.
