Oregon junior and starting wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan was held out of Friday night's game against Portland State due to a surprising injury. The 6-foot receiver from St. Louis started the first two games of the season and went through the team's pregame warm-ups in pads as what appeared to be a full participant. When the Ducks returned to the field for kickoff, however, McClellan was in street clothes and on crutches with a boot on his left leg. McClellan caught seven passes for 170 yards and one touchdown over Oregon's first two games of the season. Against Boise State, he caught six passes for 150 yards and a touchdown before finishing with one reception for 20 yards against Oklahoma State. McClellan burst onto the scene during the 2025 season as injuries mounted at receiver and his role continued to increase. He finished the year with 38 catches for 557 yards and three touchdowns. McClellan has 48 career receptions for 751 yards and four touchdowns over his first three seasons with the Ducks. His absence Friday night also created an opportunity for Oregon's young receivers. Freshmen Messiah Hampton and Gatlin Bair were among the players the Ducks turned to during the early stages of the game against Portland State. McClellan spoke during fall camp about the depth and competition Oregon believed it had built at the position. "The most exciting part about being in a talented room like this is that you have to bring your A-game every single day," McClellan said. "Every day is going to be a game." McClellan was also complimentary of Oregon's young receivers during fall camp and specifically pointed to Hampton's development. "They're growing a lot," McClellan said of the younger receivers. He said Hampton had made "an amazing transition from the spring until now," while adding that the entire room was having a strong fall camp. McClellan described Oregon's receiver room as "crazy talented" entering the season and said his approach was simple regardless of how the opportunities were divided. "I'm just here to help the offense as much as I possibly can," McClellan said.
