One-dimensional, two-QB Arkansas offense falls flat again in Georgia loss
Summary
-
Ryan Silverfield said Arkansas decided on Monday to give KJ Jackson the first two series against Georgia regardless of results, then AJ Hill the next two before reevaluating. Jackson's initial exit was therefore part of the planned two-quarterback rotation, not a reported performance-based benching.
-
Silverfield had not decided whether Arkansas would alternate quarterbacks against Tulsa and said the staff would study the Georgia tape. He estimated Arkansas used about 20 previously unrun plays against Georgia while tailoring calls to what each quarterback could execute and read, but still wanted better coaching support and decisions with the ball.
-
Arkansas produced 300 total yards against Georgia, 283 through the air, while its running game stalled again. Silverfield said both mid-zone and inside-zone runs were being stopped and called for more creativity, better work up front and better receiver blocking; he did not announce a replacement run scheme or new OL lineup.
-
Chris Marshall caught seven of 10 targets for 104 yards against Georgia. Silverfield praised his ability to separate against man coverage and find openings against Cover 3, other zones and fire-zone pressure, then turn upfield after the catch. That was an assessment of his performance, not a new starting-role announcement.
