HUNTSVILLE - Sam Houston scored early and often to march to its first win of the season with a 59-0 thumping of Nicholls on Saturday at Bowers Stadium. The Bearkats (1-2) scored 31 points in the first half, thanks to three touchdown passes from quarterback Landyn Locke to three different receivers and added a rushing score by Landan Brown to pull away. The victory was the first for Sam Houston in Huntsville since the 2024 season, as the team played at Shell Entergy Stadium in Houston last season while Bowers Stadium underwent renovations. A defensive stand by the Bearkats set the tone from the opening possession, and interceptions by Railyn Adams and She'Fon Boyd never allowed the Colonels (1-2) to threaten. Sam Houston's first drive resulted in a 65-yard touchdown reception by Tim Burns Jr. and a 7-0 lead. Locke later hit Grady O'Neill from three yards out for another score following a 33-yard field goal by Sam Carpenter . Brown broke the goal line with a 5-yard touchdown, and Darrick Bledsoe III sent the Bearkats into halftime up 31-0 with an 11-yard scoring pass from Locke. Sam Houston rolled up 619 total yards, the most since the opener of the 2020 season against Southeastern Louisiana. Locke completed 19 of 28 passes for 322 yards and four touchdowns, his third straight 300-yard passing game, as he capped his night with a 48-yard scoring toss to Kamari Maxwell at the start of the third quarter. Jerrian Parker Jr. led the Bearkats on the ground with 52 yards on six carries, while backup quarterback Brett Holloway added 51 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries. Running back Alton McCaskill also scored on a 5-yard run. O'Neill led Sam Houston with five receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown, while wide receiver Kyan Berry-Johnson had a 61-yard touchdown catch from Holloway. Sam Houston will travel to Lubbock on Sept. 26 to take on No. 13 Texas Tech at Galaxy Stadium.
