Michigan Run Game Issues
Summary
OL/RB: Yes, we’ve all stated that the run scheme of East and West is an issue….
Yes, we’ve all stated that the run scheme of East and West is an issue…. But I think an even bigger issue is we’re running formations that invite heavy boxes with the Rhino. Sometimes even Rhino and Hoffman in at the same time.
I really feel like we’d run the ball better out of 3 and 4 WR sets, even if one of those receivers is Hiter. We’re not getting the blocking we need from the extra beef and it’s causing issues for our OL guys because there’s so many dang defenders dropping in. I’m not an OL guy but I figure this would cause confusion sometimes with who to pick up with all the moving bodies in there. Hard to identify who to block which makes our guys play slow.
I’d like to see how the RBs do out of a true spread without the Rhino so much. Lastly, I really do not understand the point of the Rhino on plays like 3rd and 8 or more when we’re def passing. Is our OL so bad at protection that we have to add another OL guy to help? Seems like we’re always max protecting to try and throw to 2 WRs and a check down RB
