Top Takes: Picking Penn State's MVP after Buffalo win a challenge
Summary
Pick/market: 14 Penn State's 2026 non-conference finale against Buffalo at Beaver Stadium was notable in that any number of Nittany Lions could have been considered team MVP.
No. 14 Penn State's 2026 non-conference finale against Buffalo at Beaver Stadium was notable in that any number of Nittany Lions could have been considered team MVP. I suppose that's kind of what happens in a 55-13 laugher that in truth was not as close as the final score indicated.
If not for eight penalties for 96 yards, this game might well have gotten Oregon-Portland State ugly. But even given those mistakes, the PSU standouts were many.
Quarterback Rocco Becht threw for 212 yards and two more TDs. Wideout Koby Howard was his typical explosive self, with three catches for 115 yards, and a receiving and rushing touchdown. A week after not getting a carry at Temple, running back Quinton Martin had 10 attempts Saturday and turned them into an even 100 yards.
Meanwhile, Zay Robinson had 109 yards on eight punt returns — and two of them were impacted by PSU penalties. And we haven't even mentioned the defense, which held the Bulls to 93 total yards through three quarters despite the fact that nobody on the unit had more than five tackles.
Which is all kind of a good problem to have as next Saturday's Big Ten opener against Wisconsin at Beaver Stadium approaches. But before we look ahead to that game, let's look back at this one.
