GAME THREAD: Texas A&M vs Kentucky
Tony Catalina
Spring looked strong, and preseason camp did as well. However, when you look at Marcel Reed's body of work through the first three games of the season, there's no way to sugarcoat it: Reed hasn't been good enough. A kid who aimed to prove doubters wrong has really just supplied them with ammo, and it's become too hard to defend. Now, it's not all his fault, but throws into triple coverage and skipping balls to wide-open receivers; things are just not clicking for the Aggies QB. The fix is not easy nor readily available.
When they needed it, the Aggies' defense just didn't deliver. Week 3 was an absolute gutshot for Mike Elko's unit, which simply didn't have answers for Will Stein and Kentucky's offense. It didn't help that the offense gave them little to no backup, but when push came to shove, the Wildcats were the stronger team. Something you cannot often say about an Elko-coached team.
Cade Draughon
This team had a pretty bad showing today. I don't think there's any other way to describe it. The tackling of the defense was not good enough for a team that wants to compete at the top of the SEC.
What's confusing is that is typically the strength of a Mike Elko led team and I'm not sure if they just had an off day or if this is a real concern for the rest of the season.
The offense has consistently been slow since the beginning of the year. The first week I chalked it up to having a bit of rust. Last week I thought it was a talented opponent. Three weeks in a row is a pattern.
The season's not over, but if they play like this, they won't win many games against the tough schedule they have ahead of them.
Jackson DiPasquale
Texas A&M linebackers and safeties have struggled tackling, getting sideline to sideline on screen plays throughout the entirety of the game. The adjustments that were made a week ago in the second half seem to be nonexistent in the SEC opener and leaves the Aggies with more questions than answers as they head into Baton Rouge next week.
The Texas A&M passing game was the story of the game offensively, being that it wasn't clicking consistently throughout the game. Quarterback Marcel Reed continues to be a roller coaster as he showed good moments at times but today, the negatives outweighed the positives.
