Instant Takeaways From UCF’s 44-30 Win Over GSU
Summary
Pick/market: They’re in a pickle next week because you don’t want to throw an unknown at QB for a conference opening game, yet Jenkins didn’t do nearly enough passing the ball to trust him either.
They’re in a pickle next week because you don’t want to throw an unknown at QB for a conference opening game, yet Jenkins didn’t do nearly enough passing the ball to trust him either. TCU will see the tape and know to stack the box against us next week, and their defense will be much closer to Pitt than Ga. state. I think you have to roll with one of the other kids next week even if they struggle to see what you have in them.
As for the defense, the second half was probably more on par with what to expect, first half was filled with soft coverages and poor pursuit angles. Did Lewis Carter get hurt or benched?
Another week without Duane Thomas. Really hope he’s back next week, we need another weapon in the receiving game.
Dylan Wade is clearly in a funk. Very disappointing season so far.
On the positive side the running game, especially Watson was great. Starting Maiava and shifting over Meadows was a no brainer. If the O line can be just average the running game will dictate how the season goes. Just need the QB’s to be decent enough to pass at a 55-60% clip without turning it over too much.
Really need to beat TCU next week. On the road at Houston and Oklahoma state afterwards I’m not expecting wins there.
