Good post except I don't think Mario and Shannon decided that the defense needed to make plays so they shut the offense down. I think one or both of them made the decision to go conservative and then, when it didn't work to chew clock and run out the game Dawson decided to basically double down and be even more conservative. There's really no logical explanation for what the offense did after they scored the TD in the 3rd quarter.
I can sort of maybe understand when the drive started at the 12 to not take chances and just try to push our way out of there but, other than that, I don't get the thinking. Even in that situation, some easy slants or quick outs could have been used intead of trying to run Pringle with no blocking.
