QB/TE: Players can certainly improve but I think we are seeing some trends.
Players can certainly improve but I think we are seeing some trends. In the big games coming up, we need to find the guys who make an impact and limit the snaps for guys that don’t: 1. Bennet Christian. He does occasionally get a decent block in but misses more often than he hits. He is minus in the pass game. Our main tight end needs to be Mason Williams. If we need a true mauler near the goal line then use Jake Cook. If we need a pass catching tight end for ‘12’ personnel looks then use Roberts. Our mess in the tight end room will look much better minus Bennet. 2. Pierce: got to give him credit for being the best at punching the football out and also finding the football when it is fumbled. But for nearly everything else, he his just okay and Pettijohn and Alliegro do better. I was thrilled to see Alliegro wearing the green dot. Alliegro can help on the edge and in the middle. Both he and Pettijohn are good rushing the qb and covering. If we need a 4/3 look then bring in Alford. I am hoping to continue to see most snaps with Pettijohn and Alliegro on the field together. 3. Beau Atkinson and Qua Russau. Neither is terrible on film but neither jumps out either. Zion looked much better before he was hurt. Epi is better and should be getting more snaps at least until Zion comes back. Or let Wilder try to grow into the role. I hope our coaches are more willing to play players who ‘flash’ over players who don’t screw up but also don’t make an impact. I understand the risk. But think there will be a huge benefit.
