We learned a lot today
Summary
Pick/market: If you would have told me this morning that Raphael would rush for 200 yards, I would've bet my house on us.
If you would have told me this morning that Raphael would rush for 200 yards, I would've bet my house on us. Unfortunately, our defense and RL's terrible play calling in the biggest moments would have made me homeless.
Every time we scored, we let up a TD right away. After our opening TD, they drive down the field with ease. Our next lead was going into halftime. That lead lasted two plays into the third quarter. Then, we took the lead again 24-21 and Louisville scored 3 minutes later. Finally, in the fourth quarter, we go up 31-28, and 4 plays later, we were losing again.
The defense was atrocious. We gave up 265 rushing yards on 7.2 YPC. Would've been more if it wasn't for the first play of the fourth quarter that bailed us out.
LB play from the guys that have been in the program for a long, long time was really bad. Kilgore nowhere to be found. Miyazono a day late and a dollar short. Booker too slow and out of position too many times.
Wyrick couldn't tackle in the secondary. Spencer with some dumb plays, and our D line couldn't set the edge on runs or passes all night long.
Special teams is what it is at this point. Glad Reed made the 46 yarder, but a very poor job earlier by the staff where we got bailed out by a delay of game.
Offensively, I don't think there's much to complain about besides the head scratching (that's putting it lightly) play calling in the biggest moments. Kevin was his usual self. Very good outside of that first INT. That was really bad.
Raphael is a workhorse and the WR+TE made some nice plays.
So disappointed in Lashlee today. He coached like a young, inexperienced coach who's team was a huge underdog. Going for it on fourth and 2 on our own 33 in the first quarter in a 7-7 game is inexcusable. The play call was also terrible.
The biggest moment of the game was the 4th down where Randy threw it to Kevin. I was honestly shocked after it I couldn't even speak. We have a downhill, power RB. A 5th year QB. And Lashlee decides to get cute when it's already bitten him in the butt today.
Also, the third down call right before was terrible too. 3rd and short and Louisville stacked the box. Runs Green (not Raphael) into the heart of the defense. Would've loved to see 6 or trusting Kevin there instead of normal inside zone.
Have to run the table in the conference and hope for some help now. Missed opportunity but onto the next one
