The Bucket asks: Did Ohio State get right?
Summary
QB/OL: I don't blame Gus Johnson for a lack of energy with yesterday's game.
I don't blame Gus Johnson for a lack of energy with yesterday's game. It was a predictable blow out, he was probably pissed off having to call a game that should have been on BTN. Really, I can't imagine why FOX wasted one of their picks on that game when our schedule is so full of great choices.
The lack of 3rd down pickups extends from last week when we had 1 3rd down conversion in the last 20 or 25 minutes of game time against Texas, albeit against a much tougher opponent, but it continues to be a trend with Day's offenses. Is this just lack of a running QB? I don't think so. There's something systemically wrong with our offense whether its play calling, OL blocks, scheme, running backs, or whatever. Yesterday should have been the day we worked on fixing it.
I like the idea of having a 6th OL in for blocking more than having a TE in. Some of our TEs are whiffing on their blocking assignments.
